Another finished sewing project

So excited about this dress! Amelia will wear it to my friend Jordan's wedding in November. Full of little mistakes (and shortcuts) as usual but it's complete! And I'm in love with the fabric.

little sewing tutorial!

first, put your baby down for her nap, then (important) neglect brushing your teeth or changing out of your pajamas, making cute clothes for your baby is much more important.
1. get a plain T shirt from target, and cute fabric, and fusible interfacing.
2. Fuse your fabric to the interfacing so it is nice and stiff. Draw the shape of the collar onto fabric and trace where you will cut out the pattern.
3.  Cut out your pattern times 2 and then sew right sides together along your drawn lines (I kind of messed this part up but it turned out ok)
4. Turn your collar right side out, press, and sew onto the shirt
5. press it down
6. when your baby wakes up put the shirt on her and take her picture!

A finished project is a successful one. kinda.

the inspiration:
Untitled
A little bench for the end of a bed, or behind a couch or something. In our case I want this for the end of our bed. It cost 500 bucks. And then I saw these cute pillows in West elm catalog and liked how they combined those fabrics, so i said, "I got it! we'll make this..."

and so a couple trips to Home Depot and some embarrasing feats of carpentry later we completed a bench. But I wouldn't sit on it if i were you. Although I did work hard on the upholstery using all fabrics I already had and am pleased with how it turned out. it cost us about 40 bucks in new materials. It is suitable for setting our laundry baskets on, or clean clothes or our throw pillows. hahaha don't look at that corner leg! We just couldn't get that one to straighten out.

some projects

Yes i still do quite a bit of sewing and otherwise crafty projects! for some reason i have a harder time documenting these things like i should. Here are some chairs i just redid, they look so cute on our lower patio now, and our upper patio has these cute fabric sling chairs i just ordered from Gilt.

some other things i have done recently, a onesie made from one of my old T-shirts, a little newborn sleeper hand stamped and hand sewn on linen, and a new blanket for Amelia out of linen and a sweet floral print, which i then "quilted" i guess? by sewing some thread in a little track...

wanted to buy, made instead

SO I wanted to buy these little hair clips from Anthropologie, they have a little clip in the back so you could put them on headband or just on your hair. I thought "oh my gosh how pretty would this be on a little headband for Amelia!"
but at $15, I held off and said I would try to make one. Here's how it turned out...

pretty cute! I'll post a pic of A wearing it soon. I just used things I already had. I sewed together a layer of fabric, vinyl, then fabric, to give it some stiffness, then glued on the trim. I cut a tiny slit in the back and stuck a little hair clip in there.

easy skirt

This is a fun little pattern, super easy and a great way to make use of extra fabric. hardly even a skirt really (at least the one I made) more like a decoration. but cute!

Beach Towel!

Untitled
can't wait for our trip to Florida in about a month with our friends Katie and Paul and their 9 month old Everett. I made him a beach towel, I made A one too, but hers was kind of the test subject, and E's is much cuter.

A new dress and a picnic

I made myself a new dress last week. The fabric is Liberty of London (treat yo' self). It turned out pretty good! I took a bunch of pics modeling it while Amelia was napping...

My sister will no doubt give me tons of grief for posting these silly pictures.

and this dress will be great for when there is another you-know-what on the way!
Then we took ourselves to the park for a picnic, ha! look at A's face in this one....
I have her hat all goofy so it would shade her face...

Hope you all had a great Easter weekend! We had some lovely songs to sing in the choir at church yesterday, thanks to my mom for surprising me and coming to hear me sing!

Welp! no responses so we'll start with sewing projects for A...

These little "picnic shorts" were on my to-do list for her, and they turned out MEGA cute.
hehe, will look better on her when her legs get a little longer...

* a note on patterns, i used to not sew with patterns bc i felt it was easier and less complicated to just make up my own stuff, it wasn't until recently i remembered i hadn't gone to fashion school and hadn't learned pattern making. SO it turns out, sewing with patterns is A LOT better, you just have to jump in and give it a try! now the clothes i make can actually be worn.

Finished this skirt

Out of really nice fabric I bought from Golden D'or, and I really like it! And it is handily an entire size too small for me! crap!
