This is how they look unlit...

Success?

Only half way, when they are lit up you can't see the color...

Last night

my parents and my aunt and uncle and Paul and I went to a vigil at UT Southwestern to remember all those who donated their bodies to be used for first year medical students' anatomy class.
My Grandma Sue was one of those people.
It is coming up on two years ago that she passed and Soo Soo (who works at UTSW ) got to present a remembrance of her for the all the students and staff present, we were the only family members of a donor who attended.
It was really nice.
Really nice to have a time to remember her as a group and a time dedicated to her (and others).
Lots of the students there were very sweet and came over to us to say thank you, we were very weepy of course, but I was pleased with what a lovely thing it turned out to be.
We miss you so much Grandma!
And we still love you so much that it overwhelms us.

Very Exciting!

So some of you know that I want to become a personal event designer, a professional hostess of sorts focusing on smaller events like showers. Thanks to Paul's Aunt Lori I officially have my first gig coming up! A baby shower for a lesbian couple, how sweet is that! So I will share you with you my contract for the event, I am sure you will get a kick out of reading it...
Spread the word, I'm in business.

Shower for Janet and Meredith

With a multicolor theme because a baby will surely add color to your life

Decorations:

A sign from the name of the baby and hang it in the trees with Christmas lights, I will make the sign using watercolors on paper $10

Christmas lights on deck, we can use basic white twinkle lights of yours (assuming you have some, if not I will get some and just charge you what they cost) $0

Candles on tables on patio/deck, (can use the little votives you showed me) plus “luminaria” style colored paper bags with tea lights $15

Bunting (hanging fabric flags) over gift table saying something sweet like “Baby Love” $25

3 Vellum paper mobiles for serving table $30

4 to 6 small bouquets for the serving table and 4 to 6 small bouquets for outdoor tables $50

Favors (if you choose to have them):

“Make your own” style favors with goodies including assorted candies, boxes of crayons, (multi color theme) and a soccer ball motif to go along with these $2 each

OR

Reusable lightweight canvas bags with a colorful illustration that will remind guests of the party $5 each

Food Ideas:

Fruit ,cheese and cracker platter

Little tasty pizzas: buy some dough from a local pizza joint, and some different ingredients and make a about 6 to 10 different pizzas for guests to choose from

Chips and guacamole: always a favorite

Homemade popsicles: make a puree from fruits like strawberries, peaches, and banana (separately, like different flavors) with some added sugar and ice, and then freeze in to tasty popsicles (will need some of those popsicle forms for the freezing)

Chocolate covered strawberries with crushed pistachio: like a traditional chocolate covered strawberry except with crushed pistachios on top of the chocolate

Cupcakes with baby “onesie” flags: you can make whatever cupcakes you like, and ice them with white or yellow icing and then I can bring little flags that stick in the cupcakes, toothpicks with pictures of a baby onesie attached to each one (very cute) $12

I will bring my two drink tubs for drinks to be kept on ice

Photography:

I will be at the event and take photos of everything from décor to guests and then email them to you to be distributed as you please $40

OR

I can take photos at the event, email them to you, and put together an album for the Guests of honor (I would send you the album and then you would give it to them as an extra little gift from you) $60

Total: $142 not including favors or photography

Payment: I would ask if I could get half of the amount now, and the other half after the event, in order to pay for materials as I make the items. If you decide to do the favors, that amount can be paid after event as well, since we are not sure the exact number.

Let me know how you feel about all this, and whether or not you’d like to do the photography or the favors. The sooner I know the sooner I can get cracking on these handmade, one-of-a-kind projects! Thanks so much!

Canton!!! was really cool.

found some treasures, took some pictures.
Also, my first experience as a personal shopper ( for Justin, who's house I am decorating, gave me cash to shop for things for his house) went extremely well, I took to it like a fish to water. I am hoping there is plenty more of that in my future.
Here's pictures!
